Jeremy Duffield, Chairman, Australian Centre for Financial Studies (ACFS)
 
Retiring in December 2010 after a distinguished 30 year career with The Vanguard Group, including the last 15 as Chairman of Vanguard Investments Australia, Jeremy joins the Board of the Australian Centre for Financial Studies as Chairman. Jeremy brings to the role a strong, well respected and in depth knowledge of the financial services industry.
 
Mr Duffield is currently a director of Plum Financial Services, Ltd and a member of the Australia Financial Centre Task Force. He previously served on the Investment and Financial Services Association Limited (IFSA) as deputy chairman, on the Federal Government’s Financial Sector Advisory Council (FSAC), and on the Advisory Board of the Financial Literacy Foundation.

Prof Deborah Ralston
Prof Deborah Ralston, Executive Director, Australian Centre for Financial Studies (ACFS)
Deborah Ralston is a Professor of Finance at Monash University, and became ACFS Director in 2009.
 
Her academic background is in financial management and economics. Deborah’s research / consulting interests include the impact of financial regulation, the strategy and management of financial institutions and regional economic development.
 
Since 2004, Deborah has been a non-executive director of Mortgage Choice. She was previously a director of Heritage Building Society.

As audience warm-up he has been involved in every genre; THE LOGIES, THE AFI AWARDS, THE ARIAS, THIS IS YOUR LIFE, MILLIONAIRE HOTSEAT, TALKIN’ ‘BOUT YOUR GENERATION, DANCING WITH THE STARS, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE  as well as sit-coms, sketch shows, game shows and variety dating back to 1990.

After almost 30 years in the television and corporate worlds, there isn’t much Michael hasn’t done. Whether it’s warming up a mass of 30,000 for the televised Australia Day Awards, or MC’ing a black-tie dinner for a company’s Award night.
 

Michael has hosted six different television programs including BLOCKBUSTERS and TOTAL RECALL, IMT and BATTLE OF THE SEXES.

As Producer, he oversaw THE PRICE IS RIGHT, BERT’S FAMILY FEUD and COMEDY SLAPDOWN.

John Fraser, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, UBS Global Asset Management and Chairman of VFMC
 
John Fraser has been Chairman and CEO of UBS Global Asset Management since December 2001. UBS Global Asset Management is one of the four business divisions of UBS – the others being Wealth Management & Swiss Bank, Wealth Management Americas and the Investment Bank. He is also a member of the UBS Group Executive Board and Chairman of UBS Saudi Arabia.
 
Prior to joining UBS and its predecessor organisations in 1993, John served for over 20 years with the Australian Treasury including appointment as Deputy Secretary (Economic) from 1990-1993 and postings at the International Monetary Fund (1978-80) and as Minister (Economic) at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC (1985-88).
 
Julie Agnew, Associate Professor of Finance and Economics, The College of William and Mary, Williamsburg Virginia, USA and visiting Professor University of New South Wales
 
 
Julie Agnew is an Associate Professor of Finance and Economics and holds the John N. Dalton Term Chair at the College of William and Mary’s Mason School of Business in the United States. She is currently a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Australian School of Business at the University of New South Wales. Her research and consulting activities focus on behavioral finance and its relationship to financial decisions made by individuals in their retirement plans. She has published research in top academic journals and frequently speaks at academic and practitioner conferences around the world. She has also served on special advisory panels to the U.S. government, as well as provided invited testimony to the U.S. Senate. In addition, she is a TIAA-CREF Institute Fellow, a former elected member of the Defined Contribution Plans Advisory Committee (DCPAC) for the Virginia Retirement System, and a Research Associate for the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College. From 2009-2011, she was the Co-Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Behavioral Finance Research.
  
Prior to pursuing her doctorate, Dr. Agnew worked as an Analyst in investment banking for Salomon Brothers in New York City and as an Equity Research Associate for Vector Securities International in Chicago. A former Fulbright Scholar to Singapore, she co-authored a book examining strategic business opportunities in Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia. Dr. Agnew earned a B.A. degree in Economics (High Honors) and a minor in Mathematics from the College of William and Mary. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She received a Ph.D. in Finance from Boston College in 2001.
 
 

Amy Auster, Chief of Staff, CEO Asia Pacific Europe & Americas, ANZ Banking Group Limited
Amy Auster is the Chief of Staff to the CEO, Asia Pacific Europe and Americas at ANZ. Her team is responsible for the smooth running of the CEO’s office and leadership team, as well as providing strategic advice to the CEO.

Amy has held a number of thought leadership roles in the financial services industry in Australia, Asia and the US. She is currently a member of the Investment Advisory Committee at the Australian National University and formerly a member of the ANZ Private Bank Regional Investment Committee.

Recent published articles have focused on the rise of China and its impact on Asia and Australia; the evolution of RMB liberalisation; and the impact of BasleIII on the global financial services industry.

Before joining ANZ in 2005, Amy worked as an economist and fixed income strategist with Chase Securities, Merrill Lynch and JP Morgan in New York. Amy has an Honours Degree in Arts from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois and a Master’s Degree in Economics and Finance from Columbia University in New York.

Joanna Davison, Regional Managing Director – Australia and New Zealand, Colonial First State Global Asset Management (CFSGAM)

In her role, Joanna overseas the strategic direction of Australian and New Zealand business development, client services, responsible investment and sustainability, and the marketing and communication functions.  Joanna is a member of the CFSGAM executive team and reports directly to CEO Mark Lazberger.Joanna has more than 25 years experience in the funds management industry with varying roles both in Australia and the United Kingdom.  Prior to joining CFSGAM in 2009, Joanna was Director Investor Services at Russell Investment.  In this role Joanna was responsible for the management of the Institutional Client Services team.

Peter Kell, Commissioner, ASIC
 
From August 2008 Mr Kell was Deputy Chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. He was President of the International Consumer Protection Enforcement Network in 2009-2010 , and also served on the Consumer Policy Committee of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. Mr Kell has been on the Australian Government Financial Literacy Board since its establishment, and is a member of the Commonwealth Consumer Affairs Advisory Committee.Before joining the ACCC, Mr Kell was Chief Executive of CHOICE (the Australian Consumers’ Association) and a board member of the global consumer organisation Consumers International.  Between 1998 and 2004 Mr Kell was ASIC’s Executive Director of Consumer Protection and its New South Wales Regional Commissioner.  Mr Kell has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons – Economics) from the University of Sydney.

David Knox, Senior Partner, Mercer 

 
David is a Senior Partner at Mercer and Senior Actuary for Australia.  He is the National Leader for Research and currently the actuary to the Victorian and Tasmanian governments, the Western Australian public sector pension plan and was the industry expert of the three person team who conducted a review of Military Superannuation for the Australian Government.  He is the author of the Mercer Melbourne Global Pension Index launched in October 2009.
Before joining Mercer in 2005, David was at PricewaterhouseCoopers and prior to that was the Foundation Professor of Actuarial Studies at The University of Melbourne. In his two decades in academia, he acted as a consultant to a range of financial organisations, in both the private and public sectors, specialising in the superannuation and retirement incomes area. He has spoken and written widely in this area and has served on many Government and industry committees.

David was an independent Board member of Australian Prudential Regulation Authority from 1998 to 2003 and President of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia in 2000.  He is currently Chair of ASFA’s Retirement Outcomes Committee and a member of the Superannuation Board of the Financial Services Council.

 

Steve Lambert, Executive General Manager, Capital Markets, National Australia Bank 

 
Steve has had a career over 25 years in banking in a variety of roles in debt capital markets, interest rate, currency, commodity derivatives and structured products with emphasis on sales, originations and structuring.  He has worked extensively outside Australia, mainly in the major Asian financial markets 
Panelist – Fiona Reynolds
  
Fiona Reynolds, Chief Executive Officer, Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees 
 
Fiona is the Chief Executive Officer at the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees (“AIST”). AIST is a national not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to promote and protect the interests of Australia’s $450 billion not-for-profit superannuation sector, which currently manages two-thirds of the Australian workforce’s superannuation. AIST’s membership includes the trustee directors and staff of industry, corporate and public-sector funds.
 
Fiona has more than 16years experience in the not-for-profit superannuation sector and has played a role in advocating superannuation policy change on behalf of AIST members to the betterment of all working Australians.
Fiona has formerly been a Director of AUSfund, Industry Funds Credit Control, and the National Network of Women in Super.
 
Fiona is passionate about improving the adequacy of retirement incomes for all Australians, particularly women and the low paid. Fiona is a member of the Government’s Peak Consultative Committee responsible for implementing the Government’s Stronger Super Reform and the Governments’ National Rental Affordability task force.
Panelist – Ian Silk Ian Silk, Chief Executive of AustralianSuper  


Ian Silk is the Chief Executive of AustralianSuper and is responsible for the overall management of the Fund and the provision of advice to the Board.
 
Ian is a Member of the Financial Services Advisory Council to the Federal Treasurer; a Member of the Australian Government’s Financial Literacy Board; and a Director on the Yooralla Board.
 
Ian has worked in the finance industry for 16 years and holds a Bachelor of Economics, a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning); and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Labour Relations Law.
