MFSS2011 Victorian Innovation in Funds Management Commendation

The Victorian Innovation in Funds Management Award recognises a Victorian fund manager that has established successful business operations in Victoria, is predominately managed by its owners and can demonstrate innovation in their business model, risk management, operational processes, investment products and contributed to developing skill sets across the industry to the benefit of a broader community.

Apart from the winner there was another particularly innovative fund that the judges felt was worthy of commendation for the high degree of innovation in its investment strategy.

Wingate’s approach to stock selection and the integrated use of exchange traded options to manage risk was one of the most innovative seen in recent years and appears to be validated by solid performance.

While having a relatively small Melbourne-based team, Wingate’s proprietary screens and the need for exchange tradable company options limit their investible universe of international equities to one that is manageable.
