John Gall - Chair
John Gall – Chair
John Gall is Chair of the Melbourne Financial Services Symposium Awards.

John has extensive experience in Australia’s financial services sector, especially in institutional funds management across asset classes such as global equities, global bonds and property.

In March 2006, John retired as Managing Director after 12 years with Franklin Templeton Investments. He began by opening the Australian operations for Fiduciary Trust in 1994. In 2001, Franklin Templeton Investments acquired Fiduciary Trust International, and the Australian office became a subsidiary of Franklin Templeton Investments.

Before joining Fiduciary Trust, John spent 40 years working with National Australia Bank.

Richard Dalidowicz

Richard Dalidowicz works as Senior Manager Investments for AustralianSuper, an industry superannuation fund managing about $45 billion.

Prior to joining AustralianSuper he worked for Funds SA, a South Australian government superannuation funds management corporation, in a similar role. He has 20 years of investment experience.

Richard is responsible for managing the Australian equities portfolio of $13 billion and the global equities portfolio of $8.0 billion for AustralianSuper. The position involves improving portfolio performance, developing new strategies and evaluating the investment environment for opportunities. AustralianSuper’s Australian equities and global equities portfolios comprise a range of portfolios including index, broad active mandates and specialist mandates of emerging markets and small companies. Richard has experience in other investments such as fixed income, property and private equity and whole of fund issues.

John Eliopoulos is the Head of Australian Equities and Private Equity at Telstra Super.

Prior to joining Telstra Super, John worked for almost 9 years as Chief Investment Officer with The Myer Family. He also served as founding Managing Director of MF Asset Management – a boutique Australian Equities funds manager. Prior to his time with The Myer Family, John held a number of Senior Executive positions with companies including BNP Paribas Equities Australia and County Investment Management.

John has a Bachelor of Economics, from Monash University. He is also a fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (Finsia).

Aidan Geysen

Aidan is a Principal Consultant primarily working with JANA’s Implemented Consulting clients.  Aidan’s research responsibilities are focused on ensuring JANA’s best ideas are reflected in our Implemented Consulting solutions.  Prior to his current role, Aidan headed JANA’s Australian Equities Research Team from 2006 to 2010 and held a senior consulting role with one of Australia’s largest industry funds.

Before joining JANA in 2003, Aidan spent 12 months working and travelling in Europe. During that time he worked in the Insurance area for Zurich, and then Barclays Bank in various roles. In 1997 he began his career at National Financial Management (NFM) as part of their graduate program.

Aidan holds a Bachelor of Business from Swinburne University, and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Financial Services Institute of Australia.

David Leggo

David is independent Chairman of Australia’s largest corporate super fund, Telstra Super.

David is a respected superannuation leader former as former long-serving Chair of AvSuper, with significant experience as a representative trustee director and for two decades played a key role in that fund’s governance and growth.

Mr Leggo was recognised as Trustee of the Year earlier in 2010, an honour bestowed on him by the Australian Institute of Superannuation Trustees. In presenting the award, Mr Leggo’s generous spirit and interest in the welfare of both fund members and superannuation industry staff was recognised.

Prof Deborah Ralston
Prof Deborah Ralston
Professor Deborah Ralston is the Director of the Australian Centre for Financial Studies and a Professor of Finance at Monash University. Previous appointments include Pro Vice Chancellor of the Division of Business Law and Information Science at the University of Canberra, and Director of the Centre for Australian Financial Institutions at the University of Southern Queensland.

Deborah’s academic background is in economics and financial management and she has taught in the areas of economics, corporate finance, credit risk management, financial statement analysis and financial institutions management.Her research interests include the impact of financial regulation, the strategy and management of financial institutions and regional economic development. She has published widely in these areas and is a co-author of the text Financial Institutions Management.

Deborah is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Financial Services Institute of Australasia, and the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants. Deborah was formerly a Director of Heritage Building Society 1992-2003 and is currently a Director of the listed mortgage broking company Mortgage Choice.

A/Prof Sam Wylie

A/Prof Sam Wylie

Associate Professor Sam Wylie is Principal Fellow of the Melbourne Business School.

His research and consulting is focused on the investment management and hedge fund industries, especially performance measurement and incentives.

In 2005 Dr Wylie’s work was published in the University of Chicago’s Journal of Business.

He was an Assistant Professor at the Tuck School of Business from 1997-2004. The Tuck School, is one of the world’s leading business schools, being ranked #1 in world by the Wall Street Journal in 2006. Dr Wylie’s courses at Tuck were regularly rated among the best at a school renowned for teaching excellence.

Dr Wylie obtained his PhD from the London Business School. He also has a Master of Economics degree from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Western Australia.

From 1986-1992 he was an Intelligence Officer with the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation. Dr Wylie is married and has three young children.
